Calistoga Speedway Preps For its 76th Season of Racing
CALISTOGA (March 6)—–Officials from Calistoga Speedway are getting an early jump on the 2013 racing season, prepping the fast half mile oval to improve racing and the experience of fans for the opening of its 76th season on Saturday, April 6, featuring the World of Outlaws sprint car tour.
When the nation’s premier sprint car series hits the track, drivers will see a freshly groomed and completely re-graded surface that is expected to offer more side by side racing, more speed in the corners and faster transitions to the front and back straightaways, as work crews take maximum advantage of 5,000 yards of new clay that were added to the oval two years ago.
“Community support has always played a big part of Calistoga Speedway’s success and this year is no different,” said Chris Morgan of Motorsports Ventures, promoter of the race. “Local businessmen like Rich Stadelhofer, David Abreu and Dennis Watson have contributed many hours of work to put the race track in the best shape I’ve ever seen it,” added Morgan. “We are looking forward to bringing the World of Outlaws to the Napa Valley and showing fans what the best sprint car drivers in the country can do on a big, fast half mile oval.”
Morgan also said that all of the race teams will once again pit inside the track in full view of the grandstands. “The action in the pits is a big part of the show for fans, who can watch crews work on cars and make chassis changes during the night,” Morgan said. “We are making a change from last year and will pit all the cars in the infield where they belong and that will put all the excitement and drama of the race in front of the fans.”
The World of Outlaws tour includes up to a dozen of the nation’s best touring sprint car teams, led by five-time champion and last year’s Calistoga winner Donnie Schatz of South Dakota, and 20 time title holder Steve Kinser, of Bloomington, IN, and two-time champion Sammy Swindell.
They will take on Northern California’s best drivers, including former two-time national WoO champion Jason Meyers of Fresno and West Coast champions Jonathan Allard and Tim Kaeding, as the Outlaws make their only Calistoga appearance of the year.
Adult advance reserved tickets are $45 and include a complimentary fan pit pass, which will give fans access to all the drivers and crews from the World of Outlaws. General admission tickets are $39. Children 12 and under are just $10. Tickets for the Calistoga Speedway race can be purchased at www.dirtcar.ticketforce.com/ordertickets.
