Louie Vermeil Classic set to be Calistoga Speedway Season Debut
(May 10, 2013) – Calistoga Speedway management announced today that the scheduled June 22nd Wine Country Classic winged 360 open sprint car and the August 3rd Late Model Shootout events have been cancelled.
The June 22nd Wine Country Classic represented a conflict for many teams who had already committed to support an out-of-state race plus several others that are involved in track championship efforts that would have been jeopardized if they missed a race. Calistoga Speedway officials were unable to secure an alternate date that would allow them to attract an adequate number of cars to present a great entertainment product and so made the decision to cancel this race.
In addition, in order to complete the extensive renovation project currently underway at Calistoga Speedway a reasonable period of inactivity is required. While the effort would have been made to temporarily cease work in order to produce the June event, management decided to take advantage of the opportunity afforded by their limited schedule to complete all of the work prior to the Speedway’s signature event, the Louie Vermeil Classic, held annually over Labor Day Weekend. As such, Speedway management has chosen to cancel the August 3rd Late Model Shootout as well.
“It is unfortunate that the 2013 Calistoga Speedway racing schedule already suffered an early weather-related cancellation (Outlaws) and now will feature only the Louie Vermeil Classic this year, but management is confident that fans and racers will enjoy the improvements and the quality of racing that will take place once renovations to this legendary facility are complete,” said Tommy Hunt, Speedway manager.
Efforts are already underway for a full schedule of events next year.
